Over the past few years, I have gradually come to realize the immeasurable value that the internet has to offer me. Of course, the internet has been making the world a more efficient and connected place for decades via platforms such as email and facebook. As far as social activities and entertainment, I have everything at my fingertips.  I can chat and visit with friends, listen to an endless variety of music, and watch all the television and movies I desire – all from my portable laptop. But it wasn’t until recently that the more pragmatic and constructive benefits of an online community became apparent to me. A few weeks ago, my girlfriend and I were planning a vacation to Santa Barbara. We were going to visit some old friends from high school that we hadn’t seen in a while, but we needed a place to stay. We wanted a decent hotel that was close to their apartment and wasn’t going to burn a hole in our pockets, so I perused an online review-based directory and found a place that was highly recommended by other vacationers. The regular nightly rate was a little more expensive than we were hoping to pay, but the hotel featured a coupon discount on the directory we used! Our vacation was great and the hotel was more than enjoyable. This experience has made me curious as to what other advice and recommendations I can get from the online community. If the internet can help me find the perfect hotel in a few minutes, just think how it could help me in a local search for something important like a San Diego dentist or San Diego doctors . I believed I have only scratched the surface…
